Comments: Year of introduction is 1952 according to Ref. 1739. Also recorded from the Victoria reservoir (Ref. 27518). Introduced by Dr. E.R.A. De Zylva (Ref. 28682). Threatens the native Schismatogobius deranigalai by competing with and preying on them in the Kelani basin (Ref. 11966). Very important in reservoir fisheries (Ref. 1739). Has hybridized with the introduced O. niloticus which initially led to an increase in production but later on resulted to an imbalance in sex ratio with male dominance and a decline in fecundity. This might lead to a decline in fish yields in perennial reservoirs (Ref. 12765). Beneficial ecological effects also reported (Ref. 13364). Also Ref. 13686 and 74657.     Ref:  Amarasinghe, U.S. and S.S. de Silva, 1996
